Sound of Belfast presents
“The slower of the pieces is called ‘Throw It Away’, and the faster one is called ‘April Mist’.
Abbey Lincoln’s beautiful ballad “Throw It Away” encourages the listener to throw away the negativity in life and concentrate on the positives. Even as an instrumental, this piece showcases both Lincoln’s touching melody and Linley Hamilton’s sensitive playing.
‘April Mist’, by Tom Harrell, is one of those lesser-known jazz tunes which is rarely played, and yet is a real gem of jazz repertoire. The combination of a simple melody, fast-moving harmony and a rhythmic drive from the bass and drums sets this piece up as a great tune for improvisation.”
